Dahlia Greidinger International Symposium on Fertilization and The Environment

Technion-IIT, Haifa 24-27 March, 1997

First Circular

Dear Colleague,

You are cordially invited to attend the Dahlia Greidinger International Symposium on Fertilizaton and the Environment, to be held at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel. Symposium dates are 24-27 March 1997. this will be followed by a two days professional tour focusing on sustainabiliy and ancient agriculture. The Dahlia Greidinger Memorial Fund for Research in Fertilizer Chemistry has already organized two successful international workshops on controlled release fertilizers (1993) and on fertigation (1995).

The steadily increasing use of plant nutrients driven by the growing demand for food and fibers face a more than ever environmentally and ecologically concerned society. This imposes an intensive search for environmental friendly approaches, techniques and sophisticated fertilizers which will maintain both the need for increased food production and for keeping a safe and clean environment.

In this view the Dahlia Greidinger memorial Fund decided to dedicate the next international symposium to “Fertilization and the Environment”.

Theme

The aim of the symposium is to promote exchange of knowledge between researchers, agronomists, technologists and producers, environmentalists and legislators concerned with both quality food production and maintenance of a safe environment.

Main Symposium Topics/Sections:

  1. Fertilization, Food Production and Environmental Impact (production and quality; sustainability; environmental stress; local, regional, and large scale surveys). Contributions dealing with the issue of ancient vs. modern approaches to fertilization are encouraged.
  2. Fertilizer Application Management (fertilization planning; regionalisation; availability evaluation; modeling/forecasting agronomic and environmental impact).
  3. Environmental Friendly Fertilizers and Fertilization Technologies and Strategies (fertigation; controlled release; inhibitors; placement; synergistic compounding; foliar application).
  4. Long Term Changes and Global Nutrient Flow.
  5. Risk Assessment, Regulation (local and global effects; balances; laws and legislation; abatement strategies).

Contributions

Contributions are invited in English for all topics. The four days symposium will consist of key-lectures, oral presentations and posters. A fast response to the questionnaire, which should reach us not later than 20 September 1996, will allow preparation and circulation of a more detailed program. Papers presented at the symposium will be published, subject to an editorial review, in a proceedings volume.

Organization

A registration fee of 200$ will be requested, which will partially cover transportation in Haifa, lunches and coffees, and publication cost. Participants are expected to cover their own travel, accommodation, additional meals and tour expenses. The organizers will endeavor to keep these costs at minimum.

Organizing Committee

Details will be provided in the second circular which will be posted in October 1996.

This page will be continuously updated and will include relevant info (Haifa, Technion, touring, accommodations, sponsors, etc.)

Register to Dahlia Greidinger International Symposium on Fertilizaton and the Environment.

Abstracts and/or confirmation of participation are due before 31 December, 1996.
