Michal Hefer
TO THE MEMORY OF ITZHAK RABIN

Nobody saw the warning on the wall
did not guess the leader’s circle
that your time was limited
and all that love
in "Kings of Israel’s Square"
could not save you.
They marked you as a traitor
tattooed you, blessing the sacrifice
through fire, through pain
in a one way street.
Death drew a protecting shield
in your blood’s colors
on the peace song you sang,
placed in your jacket’s pocket.
The prophet of wrath
already spoke his words,
the donkeys urgently left
to search for the kingdom
you carried all the way along.
Shalom haver!
